On 16 October 2017, investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered in Malta by a car bomb.

At the time of the attack, Caruana Galizia was investigating several corruption cases involving two members of the Maltese government, Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri, in connection with the Panama Papers.

In the early hours of 20 November 2019, businessman Yorgen Fenech was arrested for his alleged involvement in the journalist’s murder.

​

A few days later, on 26 November, Keith Schembri, Chief of Staff to the Maltese government, was forced to resign after it was discovered that he had been leaking information from the police investigation to Fenech.

On 1 December 2019, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced his resignation following widespread protests.

​

Following the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, between 2017 and 2018, a group of graffiti artists covered the streets of Malta with images of the journalist as a tribute to her. The Maltese government subsequently ordered their removal, and within a few months the graffiti had been erased.

During this period, I created two drawings based on the graffiti and transformed them into Maltese tourist postcards.

​

Most of the postcards were donated to a group of Maltese journalists who organise a vigil in Valletta on the 16th of every month to keep the journalist’s memory alive.

​

On 16 September 2019, an initiative involving the postcards was held during which those attending the vigil wrote messages calling for justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia and her family. The postcards were subsequently sent to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
